It's always amazing to see how poorly most pitchers hit. The batting average for pitchers in baseball thus far this year is .148.
But Cubs pitchers are not the norm in this regard. They lead NL pitching staffs in hitting with a .211 average. For perspective, a nice rule of thumb is to add 100 points to a pitcher's batting average and compare that to a normal hitter. Think of Cub pitchers as .300 hitters!!
How does that .211 batting average compare to previous Cub pitching staffs? You have to go all the back to 1931 before you find a Cubs staff with a higher average (1931 Cubs pitchers – .233 batting average). Here's a list of this year's leaders among NL pitching staffs:
