Does hitting lots of HR mean your average HR distance is long?

One of the most popular (and easiest to find) leaderboards is HR leaders. But that combines HR in hitter’s parks, pitcher’s parks, and everything in between. Baseball Info Solutions collects the HR distance as well. The Bill James Handbook 2006 plans to add a bunch of new leaderboards and one of them is “Longest Average Home Run Distance”.You might expect the HR leaders to show up in the HR distance leaders. That is not what we are seeing right now (as of Wednesday, August 10, 2005). The top five HR distance leaders in each league don't include anybody that is in the top five for HR, even when expanded to show the ties.

Just for the record, the current NL HR leader Andruw Jones has an average of 363 feet in his 37 HR and AL HR leader Alex Rodriguez has an average of 394 feet (tied for ninth place) in his 33 HR.
