A new book by Doug Decatur titled Behind-the-Scenes Baseball, published by my company, ACTA Sports, has many interesting insights into the numbers of the game. Doug has worked as a statistical consultant for several major league teams. This is an example taken from the GM IQ Test in the book.
The answer to the title question is true. Going back to 1901, the average winning percentage for teams which finished last in their league in walks was a dismal .445. Not a single team has won a World Championship while finishing last in its league in walks.
